Fotteyo en Rakeedhoo

Fotteyo Kandu is regarded by many divers as the best divesite in the Maldives and is also included in the top 5 dive sites in the world. What makes Fotteyo special are the overhangs between 25 and 40 meter which are covered with a unique softcoral that nowhere in the Maldives or anywhere else in the world occurs in that abundance. The thick, lush soft coral in exaggerated fashion and form have been described as blooming cherry blossoms in springtime. The intensity and the richness leave one breathless.

Besides the exceptional softcoral Fotteyo one of the two divesites where hammerheads are seen regularly. In the early morning the scallop hammerheads rise to diveable depths and can be admired by divers. The hammerhead dive is completely different than diving on the reef of Fotteyo itself. We dive very early at sunrise in the blue and stay there until our divetime is up. If there are no hammerheads then there is not much to do, if they are there it wil be an unforgettable experience.

Hammerheads are seen regularly at two sites in the Maldives and at other places irregularly, but all almost always close to deep waters. We will dive several of these places at the east side of the South Male and Felidhoo Atoll and we will definitely see lots of sharks and hopefully also the illusive hammerhead. After Fotteyo we proceed the safari to Rakeedhoo (the southern channel in the Felidhoo Atoll) and then to the Ari Atoll where we will try to find some whale sharks anf mantarays. Also Rakeedhoo is a divesite which is known for the many shark (among which hammerheads) and also marlins.
